The gazetteer content model issue: Could Spatial Data Infrastructures provide it?

چکیده
The gazetteer is perceived differently in different contexts: Geographical Information Systems, Digital Libraries, Toponymic Standardization Processes and Cartotoponomy. These contexts shape the content of the SDI gazetteer. This paper analyzes the conventional core properties and the nature of the gazetteer to ease the building of SDI gazetteers.

Rethinking Gazetteers and Interoperability
The Alexandria project’s desire to create a gazetteer protocol grew out of two needs. First, we had identified gazetteers as a key component of our architecture for distributed geospatial digital libraries, but having only one instance of a gazetteer to go by (ours), it was unclear which features digital libraries could generally expect from gazetteers, and which were artifacts of our implement...
متن کاملUser Generate Spatial Content in Land Administration and Cadastre: Types and Usage
Nowadays, one of the most important factor for better land management are the land administration systems. Therefore, it is necessary accurate and up-to-date data on these systems. Common data collection methods, such as photogrammetry and remote sensing, are usually cost-effective and somewhat time-consuming. So, it is necessary to find new methods for data collection in order to keep land adm...
متن کاملGazetteer-Independent Toponym Resolution Using Geographic Word Profiles
Toponym resolution, or grounding names of places to their actual locations, is an important problem in analysis of both historical corpora and present-day news and web content. Recent approaches have shifted from rule-based spatial minimization methods to machine learned classifiers that use features of the text surrounding a toponym. Such methods have been shown to be highly effective, but the...
متن کاملGeoDict: an integrated gazetteer
Nowadays, spatial analysis in text is widely considered as important for both researchers and users. In certain fields such as epidemiology, the extraction of spatial information in text is crucial and both resources and methods are necessary. In most of spatial analysis process, gazetteer is a commonly used resource. A gazetteer is a data source where toponyms (place name) are associated with ...
متن کاملProvide a Model for Shaping the Subject in Comparative Studies and Research in the Field of Art With Emphasis on Interdisciplinary Studies
Consideration of comparative research as a "separate and different research process" is an issue that has not been addressed thoroughly, at least in Iran, and few of the research conducted under the title of "comparative" refer to studies conducted using different methods than the usual research methods. On the other hand, there has been a rise in the importance of interaction between different...
